Julia Donaldson, one of the most successful, children’s book authors, never actually wanted to be an author. She wanted to be famous for songwriting.
Life hasn’t always been rosy for Julia. She lost her firstborn son Hamish to suicide when he was only 25.
Her most popular book, Gruffalo is inspired by a Chinese folk tale about a clever girl who tricks a hungry tiger into believing that she is the Queen of the Jungle and scares him away.
The reason Gruffalo looks the way he does is because, Julia wanted him to have body parts that rhyme, like claws and jaws, toes, and nose.
